About me
I studied Scandinavian and General Linguistics at the University of Amsterdam, where I received my PhD in 1997 on a thesis entitled The history of the genitive in Swedish – a case study in degrammaticalization. In the years that followed I worked as a teacher and researcher, and left my Alma Mater in 2004 to accept a position as senior lecturer at the Department of Scandinavian Languages and Cultures at the University of Groningen, where, four years later, I was appointed full professor. I held my inaugural lecture on September 15, 2009 (click here for the full text of my lecture, and here for the powerpoint I used, both in Dutch).
